1996 Cacique Lifetime Achievement Award The 1996 winner of the prestigious Cacique Lifetime Achievement Award is prominent Bahamian publisher Etienne Dupuch, Jr., the man behind an army of publications dedicated to serving Bahamian tourism and enhancing the visitor experience.
Etienne Jr. entered the newspaper world early as a reporter, photographer and cartoonist. By 1951, while still working at The Tribune, young Etienne started his first What-to-do magazine and eight years later founded Etienne Dupuch, Jr. Publications. The Bahamas Handbook was first published in 1960, and has become a bible for anyone visiting, living, investing or doing business in The Bahamas. The company began expanding immediately following the Handbook's debut. In 1985, Dupuch brought out the hardback Welcome Bahamas Nassau, followed by the Dining Guide two years later and the Welcome Bahamas Freeport edition in 1988. The first Freeport map was produced in 1994. The Dupuch publications reaches millions of visitors, investors, residents, diplomats, bankers, sportsmen and businessmen a year, and are highly prized for the standard of quality that has been maintained throughout the years. There is little doubt and a great deal of testimony to the fact that Etienne Jr. has, indeed, built on the foundations established by his predecessors. The Lifetime Achievement Award is part of that testimony. Speaking of the Cacique Awards programme and its importance to tourism, Dupuch said, "I think it's very important to tourism - but even more so to the entire nation." '96 Lifetime Winner |
